Las Cruces Proposes Tax Increase for Safety Facility

Staff Report / LasCruceslocal.org

The City of Las Cruces is proposing an increase in the local gross receipts tax (GRT) to fund several important projects. One of the primary projects is a new public safety facility in downtown Las Cruces, which aims to replace the existing outdated stations.

The new facility is designed to be similar to the East Mesa Public Safety Complex and will accommodate both police and fire departments. It will feature advanced technology and state-of-the-art facilities, including improved communication systems and data analysis tools. These enhancements are expected to lead to quicker response times, more effective crime prevention, and better incident management.

In addition to serving as a public safety facility, the complex will act as a community hub, providing spaces for public events, community policing outreach, and fire safety education.
