Las Cruces Fire Department Honors Veterans in Parade

Staff Report / LasCruceslocal.org

The Las Cruces Fire Department participated in a Veterans Parade in downtown Las Cruces, New Mexico, this weekend. The department expressed gratitude and honor to all veterans during the event.

A notable highlight was the debut of a century-old fire engine that originally served Las Cruces firefighters in 1915. This historical fire engine had two 25-gallon tanks of water and operated using a soda-acid chemical system that pressurized water through a chemical reaction.

The fire engine ended up in a scrap yard in 1937 and was later sold in 1999 to Wes Melo in Oregon. Melo restored the vehicle and subsequently donated it back to the Las Cruces Fire Department.
