Heroic Facility Manager Rescues Lost Child

Staff Report / LasCruceslocal.org

On Thursday, October 10th, Zach Hernandez, the Athletics Facility Manager with Las Cruces Parks and Recreation, intervened when he saw a young child walking alone down the street with no adults in sight. Concerned for the child's safety, Hernandez approached him and inquired about his parents or guardians.

Recognizing that the child may have wandered away from a nearby elementary school, Hernandez quickly took action. He escorted the child to Meerscheidt Recreation Center, where he ensured the child was safe and calm while waiting for school officials and the Las Cruces Police Department to arrive.

Zach Hernandez has been commended for his attentiveness and compassion in this situation, exemplifying a strong sense of community care.
