Multi-Agency Operation Targets Las Cruces Drug Crime

Operation "Deep Pockets" in Las Cruces has concluded following a months-long effort to target drug-related crime, according to the New Mexico State Police (NMSP). The operation, which began in January 2025 in response to citizen complaints of suspected drug activity, was led by the NMSP Crime Suppression Bureau with support from the Las Cruces Police Department and the U.S. Border Patrol.

During the operation, officers from the NMSP Investigations, Special Operations, and the Uniform divisions, along with members of the Las Cruces SWAT and Border Patrol's BORTAC Unit, executed warrants at multiple locations. At one residence, officers found thousands of used needles and burned foil, items reportedly associated with fentanyl use. In another residence, officials discovered approximately 63 grams of cocaine, 8 grams of methamphetamine, 3 pounds of marijuana, and multiple firearms.

Data from NMSP analysts was used to map high-crime areas in Las Cruces, leading to targeted enforcement actions. The operation was a joint effort among local, state, and federal agencies and was initiated in direct response to community concerns. Residents in the area expressed gratitude to the officers for their efforts during and after the operation.
