The Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. is celebrating its 103rd anniversary. It was dedicated on May 30, 1922, during a ceremony attended by over 50,000 people, with millions more listening on radio across the nation.

The memorial honors the nation’s 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, and features a seated statue of him. It also includes engravings of the Gettysburg Address and the Second Inaugural Address, along with murals that depict his achievements in reunification and emancipation.

The design of the memorial was inspired by the Parthenon in Athens, Greece.
