Las Cruces Proposes GRT Vote for Community Improvements

Staff Report / LasCruceslocal.org

The City of Las Cruces is preparing for a vote on a proposed gross receipts tax (GRT) this year. The GRT is designed to distribute the costs of city resources among all users, including county residents and visitors. This approach ensures that everyone benefiting from the city's infrastructure and services contributes to its maintenance and improvement.

If approved, the GRT will support a local Capital Improvements Fund that can facilitate shovel-ready projects, making it easier to obtain additional funding from the state when necessary. The funds generated from the GRT could be utilized to build and maintain various facilities aimed at enhancing the quality of life in the community. These improvements could include enhanced public safety measures and recreational amenities that promote health and joy for all residents.

For more detailed information about the proposed GRT and the upcoming vote, residents can visit LasCruces.Gov/LocalElectionBlog.
